New South Carolina Law Allows Golf Carts To Be Driven 4 Miles From Residence

S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley has signed a new law allowing golf carts to be driven four miles from their owner’s homes on roads 35 mph and under. Golf cart owners could only drive 2 miles before the October 1st law went into effect.

SC cart drivers must be 16 years old and golf carts are allowed only on roads where the speed limit is 35 mph or less.

The Golf cart operator must carry three things: the SC Department of Motor Vehicles registration, proof of liability insurance for the golf cart, and the operator’s driver’s license.

A DMV golf cart permit must be replaced with a new permit every five years, but owners who have permits on or before October 1st have until September 30, 2015, to obtain new permits.

Take note: Golf carts are not allowed on the road at night. Even if they have lights, this will get you a ticket.
